VA North Texas Health Care System is the second busiest VA system in the nation and we are growing! Comprised of the Dallas VA Medical Center, Sam Rayburn Memorial Veterans Center in Bonham, Fort Worth Outpatient Clinic and Tyler VA Primary Care Clinic, VANTHCS is an integrated health care system with approximately 4,000 employees and over 1,600 volunteers and clinical trainees. VANTHCS also coordinates a Community Based Outpatient Clinic program throughout its 40-county primary service area to improve access to care for veterans throughout 38 North Texas and 2 in southern Oklahoma. U.S. Citizenship
Full unrestricted Licensure, Certification, or Registration required.
Must pass pre-employment examination.

DUTIES:
There are two vacancies for the 5C-400 Med-Surg Telemetry unit night shift and rotating weekends and holidays.
Ideal candidate is independent and skilled in the care of the complex patient of patients on a busy Med/Surg telemetry floor. Applicant must be self-directed with a strong charge nurse background. Must have 1 year Telemetry experience or ICU experience. Candidate is responsible for working collaboratively with healthcare providers, establishes and implements nursing standards of practice. Has the ability to use computers for data collection, knowledgeable of a computerized patient record system, Excel and Word. Knowledgeable of patient, family and staff education, discharge planning processes, and demonstration of successful interpersonal interactions with interdiscipli! nary team members and all levels of staff, have ability to provide educ! ational instruction to patients, families and staff, and have physical capabilities to initiate crisis intervention measures and the ability and knowledge to perform in nursing care emergencies.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
1. The following is a list of skills and characteristics which are essential attributes for this assignment:
a. All Registered Nurses, regardless of degree are eligible to apply. A BSN is preferred.
b. At least two years Telemetry or ICU experience required with charge nurse experience preferred.
c. Must be self-directed, with a strong clinical background. Must be able to function effectively as a charge nurse, team leader or team member
in a fast paced clinical area.
d. Must have keyboarding and computer skills.
! e. Must have effective communication skills and tact in dealing with patients, families, and staff.
f. Must have physical capabilities to initiate crisis intervention measures and the ability and knowledge to perform in nursing care emergencies.
Citizen of the United States. Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate State-accrediting agency
and
accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE).
Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) of the United States, or the District of Columbia
. In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of current, full, active and unrestricted registrati! on will meet the requirement of graduation from an approved school of p! rofessional nursing.
Must be proficient in spoken and written English

Applicant's education and length of nursing practice (experience) will be considered by a Nurse Professional Standards Board in determining the grade and salary of the applicant selected. Experience as a RN will be evaluated to determine if the experience is of an acceptable level of quality with regard to the following four dimensions of nursing:

Nurse I Level I - An Associate Degree (ADN) or Diploma in Nursing, no experience.
Nurse I Level II - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 1 year of experience, or an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a bachelor's degree in a related field and no experience; or a Bachelors of Science in Nursing (BSN) and no experience.
Nurse I Level III - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 2-3 years of experience, or an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a bachelors degree in a related field and approximately 1-2 years of experience; or a BSN with approximately 1-2 years of experience, or a Master's degree in nursing (MSN) or related field with a BSN and no experience.
Nurse II - A BSN with approximately 2-3 years of experience, or ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a bachelors degree in a related field and approximately 2-3 years experience or a Master's degree in nursing or related field with a BSN and approximately 1-2 year! s experience, or a Doctoral degree in nursing or meets basic requiremen! ts for appointment and has doctoral degree in a related field with no experience.
Nurse III - Master's degree in nursing or related field with BSN and approximately 2-3 years experience or Doctoral degree in nursing or related field and approximately 2-3 years experience.
