Responsibilities
Basic Purpose:
The Manager, Technical Operations is accountable for the accuracy and reliability of all technical laboratory services provided by the lab operations facility; provides direct management for all technical department supervisors; plans and schedules the activities of all technical lab operations; assumes responsibility for the proper application of laboratory policies and procedures; and operates all lab operations on a cost-effective basis. The incumbent actively supports and complies with all company and departmental policies and procedures.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Ownership of day-to-day technical operations and partnership of the ! Managing Director, Medical Director and Regional Director of O! perations in establishing and implementing short-term and long-term operating plans including expansion of testing menu, development of marketing strategy to support selling efforts of sales team, and calculation of capital requirements for department budgets.
Assists with preparation of annual budget, statistical information regarding procedures, clients, and patients; manages associate staffing including retention, hiring and terminations.
Ensures successful implementation of all new tests performed at or routed through the laboratory operations facility
Ensures all testing meets acceptable standards established by CAP and CLIA.
Provides assistance to Medical Director and Director of Quality Assessment with CAP Inspection, quality assurance and improvement.
Works with technical supervisors in ensuring strong employee engagement and best practice execution of performance evaluations
Works with technical supervisors to e! nsure that appropriate supply of inventory is managed in a timely and efficient manner.
Serves as coach for technical supervisors and provide consistent feedback on both personnel and technical operations decision-making
Provides input to technical supervisors, recruiter, HR partner, and Regional Director of AP Operations with staffing needs to ensure departments are adequately covered.
Provides regular feedback to the Medical Director and Technical Supervisors on implementation of new test offerings.
Demonstrates an ability to communicate effectively and express ideas clearly with the staff and all other health care professionals.
Works closely with the Medical Director and Regional Director of AP Operations on the implementation of the Laboratoryâs Quality Improvement Plan, Safety Program, Compliance and HIPAA requirements.
Works with Medical Director, Technical Supervisors and Managers and Supervisors on maintenance! of the Client Specimen Collection Manuals.
Adheres to all est! ablished laboratory safety requirements
Responsible for the development and on-going maintenance of a detailed laboratory procedure manual /SOPs
Supervision Exercised:
This position will have direct management of all technical lab supervisors and indirect management for all technical staff employed by the operations facility.
Qualifications:
Education Preferred:
Bachelor of Science Degree; Masters Degree in Science Preferred
Work Experience:
A minimum of 8 years of experience in Laboratory Management; AP Laboratory Experience Preferred
Other:
Training in Medical Technology, Histology, Grossing, or Cytology
ASCP Certification
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
Financial Management Acumen
Complete and thorough knowledge of all pertinent regulatory and certification requirements required
Broad knowledge of technical aspects of the t! ests performed and equipment utilized within laboratory operations
Ability to stay abreast of the latest innovations in laboratory operations testing methodologies
Ability to develop and/or direct the implementation of new and improved laboratory operations tests
Sufficient administrative and management skills to direct, control and plan the activities of the laboratory operations
