This position is being filled under the Pathways Interns! hip Program. The program is designed to provide students enrol! led in a wide variety of educational institutions, from high school to graduate level, with paid work opportunities in agencies to explore Federal careers while still in school. The Internship provides manager's a ready source of student employees and potential permanent employees upon completion of the program requirements. It also provides the student with work experience directly related to the curriculum studies or career goals while offering eligibility for non-competitive conversion to permanent employment upon completion. This
position is located in the Office of the Director, VA North Texas Health Care
Syste! m, Dallas VA Medical Center, Dallas, Texas.
The
Graduate Healthcare Administration Trainee Program (GHATP) is a 12-month
experience under the preceptorship of the Medical Center Director. During the experience the recent graduate
will:
complete
rotations through various components of the health system offering access to
academically-affiliated medical centers, community-based outpatient clinics,
ambulatory surgical centers, domiciliaries, long-term care services, electronic
health record system, research centers, and telehealth programs.

complete diverse range of management tasks and projects in operations
management, project management, finance management, quality managements, information
systems management, medical management, human resources management and research
administration.
·
report directly to, and have close working relationships with the Director
and Associate Dir! ector of the Healthcare System.
·
will work closely with ! the other officials in the healthcare system and the
senior leadership team.
·
will have the opportunity to attend senior management and network executive
board meetings, morning reports, conferences, and more.
Upon successful completion
of the training program, Recent Graduates are eligibile for non-competitive
conversion to a permanent or term appointment into a position within the VA
health care system. Preceptors work with
Recent Graduates to find a position that best fits their skills, needs, and
circumstances.
To be eligible for
conversion to a permanent or term position, Recent Graduates must:

Successfully
complete at least 1-year of continuous service in addition to all requirements
of the program.

Demonstrate
successful job performance.
·
Meet the Office
of Personnel ManagementÂ's qualification sfo the position to which the Recent
Gradua! tes will be converted.

Education Requirements: In
order to be eligible for an appointment under the GHATP Recent Graduate Program
you must meet the following requirements:

You
must be a recent graduate who has completed, within the previous two years a
qualifying masters or equivalent degr! ee.
·
Veterans
(as defined in 5 USC 2108) who, due to! military service obligation were
precluded from applying to the Recent Graduates Program during any portion of
the 2-year eligibility period described above have a full 2-year period of
eligibility upon their release or discharge from active duty; however, this
eligibility period cannot extend beyond 6 years from the date of completion of
the requirements of an academic course of study.

Applicants
who are within 3 months of completing a qualifying masters program are also
eligible.
NOTE: Individuals who graduated
between 12/27/2010 and 7/10/2012 will be eligible to apply under the Recent
Graduates Program through 7/10/2014.
Graduate Education:
Candidates must possess a degree in a major field of study in hospital
administration, public health administration, or related fields such as
business or public administration with course work in health care
administration that is rec! ognized by one of the accrediting agencies or
associations recognized by the Secretary, U.S. Department of Education. Preferred candidates will possess a degree
from a approved by the Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Management
Education (CAHME), the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH), the
Association of University Programs in Health Administration (AUPHA), the
Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB), or the
Association of Collegiate Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP)

You will be rated on the following Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other characteristics (KSAOs) based on your application for this position.

Knowledge of the principles and practices related to the management of health
care delivery systems.

Physical Requirements: The work is principally sedentary.
