VA North Texas Health Care System is the second busiest VA system in the nation and we are growing! Comprised of the Dallas VA Medical Center, Sam Rayburn Memorial Veterans Center in Bonham, Fort Worth Outpatient Clinic and Tyler VA Primary Care Clinic, VANTHCS is an integrated health care system with approximately 4,000 employees and over 1,600 volunteers and clinical trainees. Full unrestricted Licensure, Certification, or Registration required.

There is one vacancy in Ambulatory Care for a Registered Nurse. The position is primarily in the Diabetes Clinic.
The following is a list of skills and characteristics that are essential attributes of this assignment.
a. A baccalaureate degree is preferred. Degree must be from a program accredited by the National League of Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC) or the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) is preferred.
b. Minimum of 2 year recent experience in Diabetes management and education.
c. Prefer certification in CDE or AMB-BC.
d. Preferred experience with insulin pumps, U500 insulin, and management of patients with multiple chronic, and complex conditions.
e. Effective oral and written communication skill! s, ability to tactfully deal with patients, families, and interdiscipli! nary team members.
f. Ability to perform medical record reviews, collate and report review findings and monitor day-to-day operations/processes within the clinic work setting.
g. Ability to perform abbreviated patient history and physical assessments, walk-in and telephone triage, laboratory order entries, as well as data collection skills.
h. Ability to work in a self-directed manner, collaborating and coordinating with health care professionals outside of nursing service as required.
i. Ability to interact with multi-disciplinary groups as evidenced by active participation in Nursing Service unit level work-teams, special task forces and/or service level programs.
j. Ability to provide educational instruction to patients, families and staff.
k. Knowledge of and functional in basic computer operations and proficiency in keyboarding.
Must have the physical capabilities to initiate crisis intervention measures, t! ransfer/transport patients and the ability and willingness to accomplish satisfactory training and performance in nursing care emergencies. Cross training for working in all clinics is required. Flexibility in assignment scheduling that may include working Saturdays, some holidays, and flexible tours of duty (early/late clinics).

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
Citizen of the United States. Graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate State-accrediting agency and accredited by one of the following accrediting bodies at the time the program was completed by the applicant: The National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC) or The Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). Current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate profes! sional nurse in a State, Territory or Commonwealth (i.e., Puerto Rico) ! of the United States, or the District of Columbia . In cases of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement of graduation from an approved school of professional nursing. Must be proficient in spoken and written English .
Applicant's education and length of nursing practice (experience) will be considered by a Nurse Professional Standards Board in determining the grade and salary of the applicant selected. Experience as a RN will be evaluated to determine if the experience is of an acceptable level of quality with regard to the following four dimensions of nursing: Practice, Professional Development, Collaboration and Scientific Inquiry. Each dimension of practice has criteria that demonstrate essential core competencies for VHA Nursing Personnel. The criteria are as follows: Practice: practice, ethics and resource utilization, Professional Development: performance! , education/career development, Collaboration; collaboration, collegiality, Scientific Inquiry: quality of care, research. Education/Experience Requirements:
Nurse I Level I - An Associate Degree (ADN) or Diploma in Nursing, no experience.
Nurse I Level II - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 1 year of experience, or an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a bachelor's degree in a related field and no experience; or a Bachelors of Science in Nursing (BSN) and no experience.
Nurse I Level III - An ADN or Diploma in Nursing and approximately 2-3 years of experience, or an ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a bachelors degree in a related field and approximately 1-2 years of experience; or a BSN with approximately 1-2 years of experience, or a Master's degree in nursing (MSN) or related field with a BSN and no experience.
Nurse II - A BSN with approximately 2-3 years of experience, or ADN or Diploma in Nursing and a bachelors degree in a related field and ! approximately 2-3 years experience or a Master's degree in nursing or r! elated field with a BSN and approximately 1-2 years experience, or a Doctoral degree in nursing or meets basic requirements for appointment and has doctoral degree in a related field with no experience.
Nurse III - Master's degree in nursing or related field with BSN and approximately 2-3 years experience or Doctoral degree in nursing or related field and approximately 2-3 years experience.
